The construction of the Strategic Input Technology Complex (CTIE), in Eusébio (CE), by Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz, is in the process of preparing the executive project for the administrative, Technological Development and warehouse areas. The works on this first phase are expected to begin by the end of this year. In parallel, the projects for the production facilities for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are under discussion, which will be built at a later stage.

At the Eusébio (CE) plant, APIs for various biopharmaceuticals will be produced initially, because of partnerships that Bio-Manguinhos has in progress. Production will take place on different platforms, such as E. Coli, CHO, SP2 and plant cells, expanding the range of products to be offered to the population.

The future facilities were designed to meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and the requirements of environmental agencies. In addition, the enterprise will have a BPF warehouse, a technical warehouse and a flammable storage facility; areas of control, quality assurance and maintenance, in addition to administrative areas, medical center, fire brigade and all the utilities and support infrastructure necessary for the operation of the CTIE.

Bio-Manguinhos has been carrying out prospecting work and identifying new targets and potential partnerships for the development of products based on these platforms.

To enable the sustainable operation and implementation of the new Center, Bio-Manguinhos also carries out a set of actions aimed at local development, such as interaction with the local community for socio-environmental responsibility actions and projects, the development of the supply chain, training programs for professionals and the identification and establishment of partnerships for product development.

The project is being developed in accordance with the best practices regarding sustainability, conservation and preservation of the environment, with emphasis on the adoption of sustainable and accessibility technologies such as solar panels for internal lighting, reuse of practically 100% of the water, use of organic waste, lighting stations for internal roads with solar panels, use of natural lighting and accessibility in all facilities.

Added to this is the adoption of sustainable and environmentally responsible measures during the execution of the work, meeting the requirements of the programs defined in the environmental feasibility study carried out, necessary for obtaining environmental licenses; the creation of a green belt with the recovery of the permanent preservation area on the banks of Lagoa da Precabura; and an environmental management plan.
